Whether you dream of becoming a knight, peasant, archer, cook, craftsperson, or priest, we have roles suitable for all ages, abilities, and interests. Our members come from across the country and are united by a shared passion for medieval history and living history.
We train twice a week, all year round, regardless of the weather:
- Saturdays (when not at an event) at our training field
- Wednesdays in a sports hall
You’re welcome to get in touch via the contact form, email, or phone. Feel free to simply turn up to a training session — though please check first, as we may be attending an event!
Do I need any equipment?
Not to begin with. New and prospective members can borrow basic equipment from us during training sessions until you’re ready to invest in your own kit.
Because of our authenticity standards, we strongly recommend speaking with an experienced member before purchasing equipment. This helps you avoid costly mistakes and ensures your gear meets the required standards.
What is the minimum age?
We welcome participants of all ages. Children under 16 are very welcome, but please note they may not be able to take part in all combat activities at events. We also recommend that a parent or guardian attends training sessions with younger children — though be warned, you’ll probably want to join in too!
Do I have to attend events ?
No, attending events is not compulsory. However, events are the heart of what we do! They’re fantastic opportunities for bonding, making lifelong friends, and creating unforgettable memories. There’s nothing quite like gathering around a campfire with your comrades after a day of battle or living history.
Events also help fund the group — the more members who attend, the bigger and more spectacular the show we can put on.
Are there any fees involved?
For your first few training sessions, we ask for a £5 contribution per session.
If you decide to join us (we’d love to have you!), the annual costs are:
Insurance: £25–£40 per year (due in September)
Training ground fees: £5 per month
At events we often provide authentically cooked medieval food and snacks. We ask for a small contribution towards this (usually under £10 per person), which we’ll confirm in advance. We can cater for most allergies and dietary requirements — just let us know beforehand!
Meet Our Officers
The Twin Tailed Lions is a member-funded club, professionally run by a small team of elected officers who handle day-to-day decisions, training, authenticity standards, health & safety, insurance, and finances.
Everyone has a voice, but our officers ensure the group runs smoothly, stays true to our historical goals, and remains sustainable for years to come.
Charlie ‘Hubble’ Liddle
Charlie is one of the original founders of the group. A keen blacksmith, he’s often found in his forge making shields or repairing weapons. His enthusiasm and long-standing commitment helped get the Twin Tailed Lions off the ground.
Mike ‘Father Boar’ Powell
Mike is one of the group’s longest-standing members and a key figure in keeping things running. He wears many hats — from battlefield bishop to health & safety — and brings a great mix of organisation, energy, and humour to the group.
Emma ‘Lady’ Heaton
Emma is a vital member of the group and our Treasurer. She’s heavily involved in decision-making and event organisation, and she’s our go-to expert for medieval fabric work and cooking. She makes authentic garments and handles most of the food planning and preparation for events.
